Construction to Start on Gold Park

7/28/08 — Construction on Hillsborough’s Gold Park will begin in early August.

The 24-acre site on Dimmocks Mill Road will be one stop on the planned 1.5-mile Riverwalk, which will follow the Eno River east-west through town.

Construction is expected to take about six months, depending on the weather. A formal groundbreaking ceremony will be scheduled once the park’s driveway and parking lot are stabilized. The public is encouraged not to visit the site during construction because of associated hazards.

The town has budgeted $1.8 million for the project. In April, it awarded a construction bid just under $1.45 million. A $500,000 grant from the state will help with construction costs.

The park — located near a railroad trestle — will include playground equipment for 2- to 5-year-olds and 5- to 12-year-olds; a multiple-use field with two soccer goals; a fenced dog park; walking trails; picnic shelters; and a restroom.

For information on the status of the construction or to give suggestions for improvements, contact Hillsborough Planner Stephanie Trueblood at 732-1270 Ext. 74 or stephanie.trueblood@hillsboroughnc.org.
