PUBLIC WORKS SERVICE
— Garbage Collection
Curbside collection of household waste is provided once a week to all single-family residences. To find out what day your garbage is collected, check the Garbage Collection Schedule.
Only garbage contained in town-provided rollout carts will be collected. Non-rental residences with an active utility account will receive one free rollout cart after the utility account is activated. An additional cart may be purchased at the Town Hall Annex for a fee equal to the town’s cost. Public Works staff will deliver the carts. A refundable deposit is required for a rollout cart at a rental property. Contact the Town Hall Annex at 732-2104 for more information.
Rollout carts should be placed at the curb between 7 p.m. the night before and 6 a.m. the day of collection. The cart must be within 3 feet of the curb, with the handle facing away from the street. It should be at least 4 feet clear of parked cars, trees and all other obstructions that may impede the garbage truck’s mechanical arm from lifting the cart. All garbage should be contained in bags and should not overflow the cart.
— Recycling
Orange County Waste Management provides Hillsborough with curbside recycling collection on Wednesday mornings. Bins should be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. the day of collection.
To request a recycling bin, place a work order by phone at 732-2104 Ext. 222 or by e-mail. Public Works staff will deliver your bins. For more information about the curbside recycling collection and acceptable items, visit the Solid Waste Management Department’s section of the Orange County government’s Web site.
