Downtown Parking
A variety of public parking is available in downtown Hillsborough within easy walking distance to downtown shops, restaurants, visitor information, historic sites and government services. Use the Google map below to navigate to your desired destination.
Free two-hour, on-street parking is available on:
- Churton Street
- West and East King Street
- Cameron Street
- East Margaret Lane
Public Parking Lots:
- Bank of America lot, located off Churton and West King streets
- Mayo Park lot, located off West King Street
- Eno River Parking Deck, accessible off Margaret Lane or Nash & Kollock Street. This privately owned parking deck is open to the public and is convenient for those visiting Orange County offices in the Gateway Center or the Orange County Office Complex. The fee to park is $1 per hour or $5 per day.

Transportation
Triangle Transit Route 420 View Route Schedule
Route 420 serves downtown Hillsborough, the Durham Tech Orange County Campus, Triangle SportsPlex (mid-day only), Wal-Mart Supercenter (N.C. 86), A.L. Stanback Middle School, Chapel Hill Senior Center (mid-day only), downtown Chapel Hill and UNC Hospitals.
The fare is $2, payable in cash or a Triangle Transit pass. This route is operated by Chapel Hill Transit during peak times and Orange County Public Transportation (OPT) during mid-day times.
Cash:
- Cash or coins are accepted in denominations of $5 or less.
- Change is given in a “change” card that can be used toward the next trip’s fare.
Passes:
- Passes are available for regional day trips or multiple rides at discounted rates.
- Passes may be purchased from the Triangle Transit Web site.
- Some employers provide subsidized bus passes. See the list of participating employers.
Discounted Fares:
- A discounted fare of $1 is available to elderly and disabled riders. The qualifications for the elderly and disabled rate are:
- Riders age 65 or older and Medicare card holders.
- Disabled riders with a VA disability card, VA “Service Connected” card or disability card from any transit system.
- Medicaid cards are not acceptable proof of eligibility for the half-price fare.
- Children 10 years of age or under ride free.
Orange Bus
In addition to Route 420, Orange Bus also provides pickup and drop-off for disabled or elderly Orange County citizens. Visit Orange Public Transportation’s Web site for more information.
- Durham Tech Orange County Campus: 525 College Park Road, off Waterstone Drive between N.C. 86 and Old N.C. 86.
- Maxway Center: North Churton Street at the U.S. 70/N.C. 86 intersection.
- Triangle SportsPlex: 128 Meadowlands Drive, off U.S. 70-A. NOTE: It is only serviced between approximately 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Carpooling and vanpooling are great ways to cut transportation costs when public transportation is not an option. Visit the resources below to match up with other interested commuters.
- SharetheRideNC: This statewide carpooling resource provides safe and secure commuter matching.
- Triangle Transit Vanpools: A vanpool may be a good option for groups of between 7 and 15 commuters traveling more than 20 miles one way.
Emergency Ride Home is a service offered by SharetheRideNC that provides a free rental car or taxi ride home in the case of an emergency, provided you have made use of an alternative transportation option to get to work that day.
