Planning Board
The Planning Board is a 10-member volunteer board appointed by the Town Board to review planning issues in the town's zoning jurisdiction. Members review and make recommendations to the Town Board on rezonings, subdivisions and ordinance amendments.
Three of its members are appointed by the Orange County Board of Commissioners to represent residents of the Extraterritorial Jurisdiction. The ETJ is an area just outside the town limits, established by a joint agreement of the town and county boards, in which the town has zoning jurisdiction because of the area's proximity to Hillsborough. It often is believed that ETJ areas will be annexed into Hillsborough, although there is no specific plan or time schedule to annex those areas. Residents of the ETJ do not pay town taxes and do not receive town services, such as police service and garbage collection.
The Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of each month.
