Special Solid Waste Collection for Disabled
The Town of Hillsborough provides special solid waste collection for residents with disabilities who live alone or with no able-bodied person in the household. Public Works employees retrieve the rollout trash containers of those who qualify from the residents’ premises instead of at the street. This helps residents who are physically unable to move their containers or who lack the resources to have their containers moved to the street.
How to Qualify
To qualify for the service, the town must receive written confirmation from a medical doctor that the individual is not able to physically move the rollout cart. The service is provided only to houses where no able-bodied person is living in the home.
For more information or to be considered for the service, contact Public Works Supervisor Ken Hines by phone at 732-1270 Ext. 78 or by e-mail.
Periodic Checks
The town periodically checks to ensure a house still qualifies for the special collection. Residents receiving the service will be contacted in writing by town staff and asked to provide a doctor’s letter confirming continued need for special service. No personal information will be requested about health information, personal accounts, Social Security information or other matters. No fee will be charged.Periodic updates are important as past residents who qualified for the service may have moved without notifying the town. This ensures the town does not continue providing service to a house whose residents do not need it.
