PLANNING
Mission Statement
The mission of the Hillsborough Planning Department is to assist with the implementation of the revised Vision 2010 plan through timely review and reasonable enforcement of local development codes. This also includes citizen interaction and facilitating adjustments to the vision as they become necessary.
Planning Department
The Hillsborough Planning Department is responsible for implementing the Vision 2010 plan and enforcing the land development ordinances enacted by the Town Board. This is done through:
- Land development plan and permit review by staff and advisory boards
- Facilitating public interaction and participation in the plan review process through advisory board membership, public meetings, hearings, and one-on-one communication.
- Specialty planning areas like historic preservation and parks planning.
- Suggesting ordinance amendments to keep current with technology and trends.
- Representing town on regional planning committees, and
- Maintaining records of advisory board actions.
The staff issues Zoning Compliance Permits for new home construction, home additions, fences and outbuildings, businesses operated from homes, building changes in the Historic District, and board approved non-residential and multi-family projects.
The staff provides support and processes applications for 4 advisory boards. The advisory boards are comprised of town citizens who volunteer to help with these important and often difficult issues. The Boards are: Planning Board, Historic District Commission, Board of Adjustment, and Parks and Recreation. Please use links at the right to access more information on each board.
